For this brand, every shirt tells a story, and every parcel carries a piece of remembrance.
Through affordable and reliable shipping, we, at Sendle, are honoured to be part of something extraordinary; something that lets people wear history and revere sacrifice on their backs.
The thought that sparked it all
It all began in 2004, just when the Juno Beach Centre was opening in Normandy. The centre had launched a program inviting families to purchase name plaques for relatives who served in World War II (WW2). But Joe Wilson, founder of D-Day Wear, couldn’t help but think about the soldiers who didn’t leave behind children, whose names risked fading from memory.
“No person should ever die for their country, that no one knows,” he thought.
Since then, he’s been on a mission to honour the fallen soldiers (especially those who had no family to remember them) during WW2. He launched D-Day Wear soon after, and started designing shirts that spark conversations about history and educate individuals about its significance today.
He uses the brand’s revenue to raise funds for service dogs in the Canadian military and first responders who require them. Because dogs save lives, too.
In a span of 21 years, the brand has become a powerful platform for recognition, storytelling, and community support. Each design has become a tribute; each order a reminder.
When shipping rates cut too deep
Like many business owners, Joe eventually realized that building a brand is one thing, but shipping your products affordably can be a whole different battle.
The brand caters to customers in Canada, the U.S., and the U.K., so he has been using the postal service for years. However, “their rates were outrageous,” Joe said.
He wanted to offer a more cost-effective shipping option for his customers without compromising delivery times and service, so he kept searching for other providers online.
Finding shipping that made a difference

Joe considered it a blessing when he found Sendle in 2023 because of how much time and money he’s been saving. With Sendle, he can ship a shirt from Guelph, Ontario to California in the U.S. for less cost than he could to Toronto (which is less than just a 2-hour drive away) using the postal service.

He continued by discussing that as long as he books a parcel by 11 p.m., it still gets picked up the very next day, which expedites the delivery process. “Not having to go to the post office saves time,” he continued.
Happy with Sendle and helping others find it
Now D-Day Wear uses Sendle for over 95% of their shipping, and they’ve been getting positive reviews from customers, especially with how fast they receive their orders.
Sendle’s tracking and communication features also make a big impact. “Sendle provides track and trace, insurance coverage, notifies the customer that their order is on its way and you can find all the information on the Sendle Dashboard. [If I have] any issues, the support team fixes it relatively fast,” Joe shared.
Because of this, Joe constantly recommends Sendle to other vendors he encounters. He thinks that entrepreneurs are in the same war, just not the same fight all the time. So if he can help someone save time and money (like how Sendle does it for him), he definitely will.
Carrying the mission forward, affordably
As of writing, D-Day Wear has already donated over $100,000 to veteran-focused organizations, and its mission goes on. They will keep releasing new designs each year, remembering unrecognized heroes, and connecting younger generations with history.
And with Sendle in the brand’s corner, D-Day Wear can keep heroic stories in motion—one shirt, one parcel, one memory at a time.
